Nhiều ngành công nghiệp sử dụng phun hạt mài để làm sạch các sản phẩm hoặc linh kiện, và cũng để kéo dài tuổi thọ của sản phẩm cho các vật thể khác nhau bằng cách cải tạo lại bề mặt của chúng. Phun cát được sử dụng như một kỹ thuật chuẩn bị bề mặt trước khi áp dụng lớp phủ trên bề mặt của một vật thể, và cũng có thể rất hiệu quả khi loại bỏ lớp phủ hoặc làm sạch bề mặt của vật thể để kéo dài tuổi thọ của nó.
